When Kamryn Oaks entered the eighth grade, she knew one activity she wanted to join; the
FFA. It was family members who encouraged her to join.
“My grandparents were a big part of my start. I started showing cattle when I was six. I was
in 4H for several years and always know I wanted to join FFA,” said Oaks. “One person who
has been a big influence is my mom. She always is so supportive in everything that I do and
is there to watch me in everything. She always pushes me to do my best in everything that
I’m involved in.”
Oaks said she enjoys showing cattle in FFA, particularly Hereford’s.
“I enjoy showing cattle the most and all the memories and friendships that I’ve made. I also
enjoy just being involved and getting other people involved in everything FFA offers,” said
Oaks. “I am the chapter President. I am a member of the livestock team, the livestock
judging team, and participate in speech contests.”
Oaks is a member of the softball team and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“I love how competitive our program is and how it’s been built. It’s also very fun and fun to
be a part of. It’s also a system where the coaches are here for you, and you can talk to them
about anything that you are dealing with. I feel like the Arapaho-Butler softball team is like
a family and would do anything for everyone. I love how all my teammates are friends I
love that we all support each other and all of us are each other’s biggest fans and if you’re
having a bad day someone on the team is always there to pick you up, we are like a family,”
said Oaks.
The senior said if you’re interested in being in FFA you should give it a try.
“I would tell them that they should join, you make new friends, have the opportunity to go
in fun trips, and there is something for everyone. You don’t have to show animals if you join
FFA, there are a lot of other activities and I think there is something for everyone, you just
have to find what you like and are interested in. FFA is something I am very passionate
about, and I believe things in FFA help with leadership skills. It has helped me with being
confident in myself and to communicate,” said Oaks.
Next fall Oaks plans to attend college, but is undecided on a major.
