WOSC’s Kalie Pendergraft – Presented by Western Oklahoma State College

In her first year at Western Oklahoma State College, former Hollis High School graduate Kalie Pendergraft has adjusted to life on campus and life as a college athlete. For Pendergraft, the biggest adjustment was time management.

“My biggest adjustment from high school to college was doing schoolwork on my own time. Also, college has put me in better shape than high school ever did. The workouts are very helpful,” said Pendergraft.

As a freshman at WOSC Pendergraft is majoring in a field she plans to pursue once she has her degree. Pendergraft said WOSC was the right choice for her based on its proximity to home and the classes they offer.

“My major is Kinesiology; I plan on becoming a physical therapist so I can stay close to the sports industry. WOSC was the right school for me because it’s close to home. I get to see my family every weekend. I took college classes during my senior year so that helped with knowing the teachers a little better. WOSC all together is the right college for me,” said Pendergraft.

The challenges student-athletes face never go away. Completing assignments and preparing for finals are still a thing. At WOSC, the faculty understands those challenges and works with the students to ensure their success in the classroom.

“What I love most about student-athlete at WOSC is that the coaches and teachers are always understanding, and we still have enough time to study and do homework,” said Pendergraft.

Softball is a sport Pendergraft has played since the age of three. The freshman said her teammates at WOSC are some of the best people and players.

“My teammates are fun to be around, we all get along very well. We are all goofy and it’s fun to play with them. I would say Amanda Johnson and Reese Mathis. They are always goofing around, and they make the game fun,” said Pendergraft.

The left fielder is looking forward to the coming summer and some free time.

“My summer plans are working for my dad and papa. My family does water wells. We also go to the lake almost every weekend. My favorite thing to do in my free time is going to the lake, or car shows with my family,” said Pendergraft.
