PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kasen Legrand – Canute Sr.
Legrand is a Connors State signee. He hits for both power and average while maintaining a steady approach at the plate. He’s smart on the bases and in center field.
Brett Allen – Cheyenne-Reydon Fr.
The versatile Allen was thrown into playing shortstop and hitting in the three-hole as a freshman last fall. He was “extremely solid,” coaches say, and had many highlights through the fall, including a walk-off home run against a talented Vici team. The work he puts in will allow him to continue to improve as expectations are high. He also has a live arm on the mound with the capability of throwing “really soon.”
Danny Corbin – Cordell Jr.
Corbin is an outstanding baseball player and teammate. He is an experienced player that brings stability to the team. He will play a big role in the team’s success this season.
Kash Mayfield – Elk City Jr.
Kash is hard-working player and has consistently improved ahead of a promising junior campaign. The Oklahoma State signee went 9-1 as a sophomore with a .920 ERA and 101 strikeouts. He hit .290 with 20 RBI and a home run last season.
Tucker Dunlap – Erick Jr.
Dunlap is an infielder and leadoff hitter. He hit .290 in the fall and had a fielding percentage of .95. He led the team in multiple categories and looks to have an impact this season.
Braedon Sizemore – Hammon Sr.
Sizemore is a very competitive player who “always gives his best” and will be one of the team’s top pitchers and hitters this spring. Coaches expect a big senior campaign from the lefty.
Lucien Zakrzewicz – Sayre Sr.
Zakrzewicz has worked hard and will be an impact player for Sayre this spring. He will play a big role on the field this season and he is also a great teammate off the field.
Caden Hunter – Weatherford Sr.
A Pratt CC commit, Hunter is an outstanding athlete and great kid who “just does not quit.” He does whatever necessary to help his team win.
UNDERCLASSMEN TO WATCH
Jake Beutler – Canute Fr.
“JB” had a big fall season both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate, he hit .425 and drove in 45 runs with eight doubles and three triples. On the mound, he led the team in innings with 51 innings pitched and boasted an 8-3 record with a 3.16 ERA with 51 strikeouts and a .203 batting average while facing some tough lineups.
Rylan Pennington – Cheyenne-Reydon Fr.
Pennington played a solid freshman fall season at first and third base, where he batted in the four-hole with a .336 average which will only improve. He’s a strong athlete and does a good job defensively and on the hill.
Tate Wilhelm – Clinton So.
Wilhelm, a sophomore Clinton catcher, has a chance to be a “very good player” if his work ethic continues its trajectory, his coaches say.
Kadon Rivera – Cordell So.
Rivera is a sophomore with a big body and plenty of potential. As he develops confidence through experience, he has the opportunity to be a very good player.
Catch Geno – Elk City So.
As a freshman, Geno hit .375 in varsity action. He was also 3-0 on the mound with 15 strikeouts. He is expected to continue to improve as a sophomore on the mound and at the plate.
Gabe Henderson – Erick Fr.
A hard-throwing freshman who went 3-3 on the mound this fall, Henderson averaged just over nine strikeouts per game. In the five-hole, he hit .310 and led the team in doubles and triples.
Hayden Johnson – Hammon So.
Johnson “really came into his own late in the fall,” his coaches say. He is expected to take the next step this spring and bring some pop to the middle of the lineup.
UNSUNG HEROES
Brody Bryant – Canute Sr.
An Oklahoma Christian University commit, Bryant stepped up during the fall season and played shortstop for the first time in his career. He was solid on defense and very well-rounded at the plate. He hit .345 in the fall with a .455 on-base percentage with nine doubles, five home runs and 34 RBI. Bryant also was a steady presence on the mound after not pitching for the majority of his career; He pitched 24.2 innings with a 3-0 record, a .288 BAA and 20 strikeouts.
Grady Gaunt – Clinton Sr.
Gaunt, a three-year starter, is a team leader who has played everywhere during his high school career, but he should have a chance to play at the next level in the outfield.
JD Maddox – Cordell Sr.
An outstanding left fielder, Maddox is the Cordell’s only senior. He is a true leader that takes it upon himself to maintain team morale; he has a great attitude, is unselfish and is willing to do anything for the team
Cooper Church – Elk City Sr.
Cooper has been varsity for three years. He’s not known for being a flashy player, but he does so many things that help the team win. As a junior, he was 7-2 on the mound and was a big reason for Elk City’s success last season.
Caden Harkin – Erick Sr.
A hard-working senior who started every game in the outfield this fall, Harkin will be relied upon to catch this spring. He led the team last fall in on-base percentage and hit by pitch with nine. He hit .280 with 11 RBI.
Kagen Macumber – Hammon Sr.
Kagen is a player that always brings top effort. Plays hard and lays his body on the line. He is a senior who does a great job leading by example and is a coach’s dream.
