Walters’ Kason Johnson – Baseball Spotlight Presented by Rusty England State Farm

By Derrick Smith

Family can play a big role in the life of a high school student-athlete. Not only do they make sure that the athlete shows up to practice and has all the equipment that they need, but they also serve as a support network for the athlete. Kason Johnson says that he has two family members that have been important in his development as an athlete.

“Some of my biggest role models and influencers are my mom and my papa,” he said. “They have always been there for me no matter what. They have pushed me to be the best that I can be and support me in everything. They have taught me that I can be a faithful Christian in whatever career path I choose.”

Johnson attends Walters High School where he plays baseball, basketball, and golf. He has played the game of baseball for about 13 years and currently plays first base and is a left- handed pitcher. He loves the game of baseball and knows what it takes to be successful when he is on the field or in practice.

“It has taken me lots of time working on what I need to do to get better,” he said. “Whether it be playing catch at home, pitching into a hay bale, playing catch with family, or staying focused at team practice and taking everything seriously.”

Having spent a lot of time on the field, it makes sense that Johnson would have made a lot of memories and had some exciting moments. He says that the moment he is proudest of happened last season.

“The highlight moment of my career would have to have been when I hit my first high school home run last year,” he said. “It was a great feeling.”

Kason is also a member of the student council, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, and Future Farmers of America. He also serves as treasurer for the junior class. He also plays travel baseball.

“I am going to play for the OKC Ambassadors this summer,” he said. “It is a big deal to me because I get to play travel baseball while still being able to learn about and glorify Jesus Christ.”
