Walters High School junior Carter Ray is a member of the varsity basketball and golf team and the latest winner of the VYPE Lawton area school poll.
On the course, Ray is becoming a name to remember for Walters High School. He recently played his best round to date.
“My best score is a 66. It was this March at the Walters golf course. I played with two of my teammates,” said Ray.
As a member of the varsity team, Ray said he enjoys his teammates and how everyone wants to work hard to get better at the game while enjoying the process.
“I love that they want to get better every day and that they constantly have me laughing. I love that there is always room for improvement as well as the competition that comes along with it,” said Ray.
In the classroom, Ray said he has a favorite subject and as a golfer, his subject makes sense.
“My favorite subject is math because it comes very easy and natural to me. Coach Nease is my favorite teacher because he engages the class very well, he’s a funny guy,” said Ray.
For Ray, there are many reasons he enjoys competing for Walters High School, but one stands out amongst the rest.
“The fan base is a very exciting and supportive part of our success at Walters,” said Ray.
The junior is making plans for his future heading into his senior season.
“I plan to play golf at the collegiate level and get a bachelor’s degree,” said Ray.
Away from school, Ray said he enjoys hanging out with his girlfriend and friends as well as playing golf with his teammates.
