OFFENSE

Entering his fourth season leading the Marlow Outlaws, Matt Weber is excited about what this season has in store. “We have a strong nucleus returning off an undefeated quarterfinals team,” Weber said. “If we can develop an offensive line, we look to be strong again in 2021.” While Marlow will need to develop an O-Line, they have a lot of skill players returning. Vype Top 100 player Jace Gilbert (6-0, 190, Sr.) will lead this pistol spread offense from the quarterback position. Gilbert threw for over 1,700 yards last season and tossed 17 touchdown passes. Not only is Gilbert a skilled quarterback, but he is also a weapon on special teams as both a punter and kicker. Joining Gilbert on offense is running back Julian Marrooquin (5-8, 175, Sr.), who ran for 13 touchdowns last season. Marlow is also returning Vype Top 100 receiver Will Bergner (6-1, 180, Sr.). He caught eight touchdown passes a year ago. Bergner is a skilled special teamer as well, returning three punts for touchdowns in 2020. Joining the receiving group this year is the big body of Avrey Payne (6-4, 185, Jr.). Payne is making the move to receiver from quarterback. Coach Weber says Payne is a great athlete who also stars on the Marlow basketball team. 

DEFENSE

Defensively, Marlow is retuning six starters from last year’s quarterfinal team. The Outlaws will use a 4-2-5 base that Coach Weber describes as adaptive. Among those six returners, is the entire defensive line. Cody Huber (6-1, 275, Sr.) and Gus Wilson (6-2, 265, Jr.) are the defensive tackles. They combined 117 tackles and four sacks in 2020. At defensive end, Brennan Morgan (6-0, 215, Sr.) and Josiah Johnson (6-3, 220, Sr.) are back after combining for 123 tackles and 10 sacks a year ago. Kyle Wilson (6-2, 210, Sr.) will anchor the linebacker group. He registered 89 tackles and 12 sacks in 2021. In the secondary, Will Bergner will lead the DBs from his free safety position. He tallied 61 tackles, four interceptions, and four pass breakups in 2021. The assistant coaches include Jeremy Gage, Bobby Wortham, Eddie Herchock, Chad Gilbert, Daryn Brantley, and Freddie Crowson.
