OFFENSE
A new challenge emerges for the Marlow Outlaws as they move into Class 3A competition. In 2021 the Outlaws and coach Matt Weber went undefeated and won the Class 2A Championship 17-13 over Washington. This year the Outlaws will have to replace many starters from last year’s championship team but are optimistic that they can continue their streak of success. Although the Outlaws only return two starters, a lot of players that will have a bigger role this season did see a decent amount of playing last year. Weber expects his offensive line to perform well and his skill players to get their feet wet early in the season and gain confidence as the season progresses. Quarterback Cade Gilbert (5-9, 175, Jr.) will get his chance to lead the Outlaw offense this season. Look for Gilbert to get the ball to Avrey Payne (6-5, 190, Sr.), a wide receiver that has started all three years and is a big-time basket- ball recruit. His great size and athleticism provide a reliable target anywhere on the field. Aiden Williams (6-3, 270, Sr.) and Jacob Windsor (6-1, 240, Sr.) bring leadership to the offensive line and will set the tone for the Outlaws. Tight end Easton Dittner (5-11, 206, Sr.) and tailback Brian Zhang (5-9, 180, Sr.) will be versatile playmaking threats and should be big contributors all season.
DEFENSE
Defensively the Outlaws want to stop the run and keep receivers underneath their coverage. They’ll run a 4-2-5 package to limit big play opportunities and bring pressure to keep op- posing offenses guessing. Ely Gray (6-2, 185, Jr.) and Brock Smith (6-1, 215, So.) will be tasked with containing the edge from their defensive edge positions. Jace Hunt (6-0, 185, Jr.) will be a vocal leader at linebacker and lurk behind the line. Barron Gage (6-3, 170, Jr.) and Payne are two defensive backs, both well over six feet tall, who are lockdown cornerbacks that provide a very limited window for quarterbacks to throw into. Although there are many new names starting this year for the Outlaws, their expectations are high following an undefeated season with a coaching staff that knows how to get the most out of its players.
