Nick Northcutt was in the eighth grade when he decided to enter the FFA chapter at school. Now a senior at Madill High School, Northcutt has experienced some great things in FFA. Memories and experiences that he will carry for a lifetime.
“I enjoy being a member of the future generation of agriculture and all of the activities I am able to compete in,” said Northcutt.
It was his family who first encouraged Northcutt to join FFA. Many of his family members have been involved in agriculture over their lifetimes and for Northcutt it was a natural to follow in their footsteps.
“My family has always been involved in agriculture. My dad has always ran cattle and my older brother and sister both showed cattle, so when the time came to either become a FFA member or not, it was really a no brainer,” said Northcutt.
Northcutt is currently part of a team that did very well at state last season, and he has been involved in several other activities during his time in FFA.
“I am involved in the soil and water team and the parliamentary procedures team which placed third at state last year,” said Northcutt. “I have shown steers for the past five years now and will again this upcoming school year.”
As a student at Madill High School, Northcutt also plays football, basketball and is a member of National Honor Society. Northcutt said his family plays a big role in his life and his father has been a positive influence.
“My father has been a huge influence in my life. He constantly is an example of a hard worker, a leader, and an all-around great person. Without him I would not be the person I am today,” said Northcutt.
The senior offers this advice to anyone looking to join FFA.
“Be active and don’t be afraid of stepping out of your comfort zone. There are numerous opportunities in the FFA to make yourself a better person, gain life skills, and have a lot of fun, but the only way you gain these things is if you are active,” said Northcutt.
