OFFENSE

Head coach Chalmer Wyatt is in his second season of rebuilding the Elgin football program. He will have several returning starters, 19 total, but many are underclassmen and are still maturing into their roles. “Starting 9-11 freshmen and sophomores last season was great for experience. We’ll be young and hungry this year,” said Wyatt. Ten starters are back on offense including Matt Lund (6-0, 160, So.) at running back. Lund rushed for over 500 yards last season and is expected to be more effective with another year under his belt. Lund had 10 runs for more than 30 yards last season and started eight games as a freshman. Also look for running back Treyvon Crabtree (5-9, 165, So.) who brings some electricity to the field for the Owls. Both backs have that big play potential and will only get better with more experience. The Owls plan to run the power spread offense according to coach Wyatt. “We will run zone and gap schemes out of multiple formations with play action behind the run game,” said Wyatt.

DEFENSE

With nine starters returning to the defense, the Owls are excited to see what this unit can accomplish. Leading the way is VYPE Top 100 selectee Rylan Hitt (6-2, 285, Sr.) at nose guard. Hitt is very active up front and one of the toughest guys to block. This season he will likely deal with double-teams all season long. The Owls will base in the 3-4 making Hitt the center of attention. Crabtree could see some time on defense. His speed makes him a great option at corner. His 40-time is a 4.6 and runs an 11.00 in the 100 meters.
