Duncan’s Carson Skiles Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Delaine Parker, Shelter Insurance

Carson Skiles is a sophomore at Duncan High School and a member of the boys golf team.

“As a student athlete, my favorite part is having the opportunity to represent my school on the golf course. However, my least favorite part is all the homework that I have to complete after a hard tournament or game,” Skiles said. Skiles has been playing golf for three years, and when asked who his athletic inspiration is he said, “my athletic inspiration is Joel Dahmen. He was a two-time 3A state golf champion at Clarkston High School which pushes me every day in my game, especially at tournaments.”

One of Skiles goals while playing golf in high school is to compete in a state tournament as an individual. His biggest accomplishment while competing in golf as a sophomore has been making it to the golf regional tournament.

Success for student athletes involves maintaining a balance between their academics, social life and their sport.

“My definition of success is being able to accomplish a major goal that you have set. Setting a goal and seeing it through gives me a feeling of success.”

An important goal that Skiles has set that he hopes to fulfill is to receive multiple scholarships for golf so that he can go and play at the college of his choice.

“One of my biggest role models and someone that has given me the best advice throughout high school has been my dad,” Skiles said. “My dad has always given me the best advice before a big tournament or game. He will tell me that I am always going to have bad shots but what is important is what I do after. That is what really matters.” Carson takes that advice with him into every tournament and believes that helps him to play his best game possible.
