OFFENSE

After sub-par seasons in 2019 and 2020, coach Casy Rowell told his team last year that if they worked hard, success would come. And so it did in 2021 as the Indians not only put up a winning record but made it to the first round of the playoffs where they were unfortunate enough to run into Class 2A state finalist Washington in the first round. So, in 2022, Rowell is upping the stakes for his team. “This year our goals are to make the playoffs and become real contenders. We have an experienced group of seniors that have been to the playoffs every year they’ve been here and are excited and ready to play.” Four-year starter Kooper Doucet (6-0, 185, Sr.) will be back under center for the Indians. Another four-year starter will provide Doucet’s protection in the line in Cade White (6-3, 290, Sr.). White played in the All-American Combine in Dallas this summer and is also an accomplished wrestler. He’ll be joined by Travis Monson (6-4, 240, Sr.). Look for a big year for running back Tucker Oliver (5-10, 190, Sr.) who rushed for 1,100 yards last season with Gabe Diaz (5-10, 190, Jr.) also picking up some time carrying the pigskin. Three-year starter Logan Bain (6-2, 180, Sr.) will be back as a wide receiver for the Indians as will multi-sport talent Colby Shannon.

DEFENSE

The Indians return seven starters for Rowell’s 4-3-4 defense. Four-year starter Kasen Vanbuskirk (5-10, 175, Sr.) will be at one defensive end spot and Doucet will be at the other end. In the middle will be nose guard Noah Presgrove (6- 0, 165, Sr.) working to disrupt any opponent offensive. At linebacker look for the return of Braylen Butler (5-10, 160, Sr.) as the disrupter in the middle and in the secondary it will be Bain and Oliver at the safety positions. The Indians will move to District 2A-3 this year taking Lindsay and Fredrick with them to be joined by Washington, Community Christian, Crooked Oak, Little Axe and Purcell. With a senior-heavy crew, Comanche is poised to take it farther into November this year. Of particular note on the schedule will be a rematch with Washington late in the season.
