Chickasha Fightin Chicks Basketball Preview – Presented By First National Bank And Trust

BOYS
Coach: Jack Hankins
20-21 Record: 4-17

Head coach Jack Hankins graduated only one player from last year’s team giving him plenty of experience returning to the court this season. “This will be my second year with the program coming off a COVID-19 year,” said coach Hankins. “We have made great growing strides and we are developing into a good team.” Mal’ek Murphy (6-1, Jr.) is a very physical player who is aggressive with the ball and has an instinct for getting to the basket. Those same instincts carry over on the defensive end. Last season Murphy averaged 12 points a game and will look to be the sparkplug that gets Chickasha going. Xavier McFadden-Copeland (6-4, Sr.) averaged 11 points per contest and will start at forward. The senior brings leadership and experience to the floor. Also look for Sooner Boardingham (5-8, Sr.) who will start at point guard. Boardingham is the floor General and a player to watch this season. Boardingham will compliment Murphy in the backcourt. Also look for Carson Robnett (So.), an underclassman who continues to develop into a solid player. Coach Hankins said Robnett has improved his shooting ability and is a good defender. Izaya Russell (6-1, Sr.) and Derek Doan (6-0, Jr.) are two players coach Hankins expects to be big contributors this year.

GIRLS
Coach: Jace Johnson
20-21 Record: 6-16

Entering this season, the Fightin Chick are looking to put last season behind them and ready to make improvements as a group. First year head coach Jace Johnson sees potential in his new squad. “We have a hard-working group,” Johnson said. “They have the ability to make some large strides this year.” Junior standout Leighanne Eaton (5-10, Jr.) is extremely athletic and will be a key player for the team this year and could average twenty points per game. Serenity Golightly (5-4, So.) is looking to step into a larger role this season. She is the younger sister of college basketball players Eric and Dominique, and she has the potential to be a stellar player in her own right. Point guard Brittney Grissam (5-4, Jr.) is speedy, athletic, and a solid defender. She looks to be a leader on the team and run the show from the point guard position. A hard-nosed athlete, Rylie Weber (5-3, Jr.) brings the ability to make shots whenever she is called upon. She put in a lot of work in the offseason and looks to make a bigger impact this year. A new addition to the team, Kameron Crutchfield (5-6, Jr.) has the ability to be an immediate impact player that can stretch the floor.
