Central’s Luke Thrasher – Hometown Hero – Presented by Bank of Commerce

High school athletes invest a lot of time and effort so that they can be at their best when they step out on game day. Luke Thrasher says that it takes a lot and you have to stay focused on your goals.

“I have put in a lot of hard work to be the athlete that I am today,” he said. “Winning is something that keeps me motivated as well as trying to be my best for my teammates and coaches.”

Thrasher is a sophomore at Central High School, where he plays both basketball and baseball. He is also a member of the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Throughout his life, there have been a number of people that have had an influence on his life. But Luke has a couple that have made a bigger impact.

“My dad is the biggest role model in my life,” Luke said. “He always pushed me to be a better player. Another would be my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Berry. He helped me to be a better person and work hard.”

Kenny McGough is the head boys basketball coach at Central and he says that Luke is an outstanding basketball player and athlete.
“Luke is the total package when it comes to being a basketball player,” MCgough said. “He possesses the ability to either shoot the perimeter shot, get to the mid range, or get all the way to the rim on the offensive end. Not to mention, he is a great passer and offensive rebounder. On the other end of the floor, he is an absolute lock down defender. His name is one to highlight and keep an eye on. We expect huge things from him.”

While he has worked hard, Luke says that he has some outstanding teammates that he enjoys working with and beside.

“My favorite teammate to go up against at practice is Landon Johnson,” he said. “We are both very competitive and always make each other better.”

Last and definitely not least, Thrasher wants to thank his parents for being his biggest supporters.
