Central Marlow’s Karsen Ketner Athlete Spotlight Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

Karsen Ketner

Central Marlow High School

When Karsen Ketner of Central High School first got involved in raising livestock, she was a third grader. Now a member of the FFA chapter in high school, Ketner said her family has always been involved in agriculture.

“I became involved in agricultural as a third grader while showing pigs. My first year in FFA was my eighth-gradeyear. My brothers love for FFA sparked my interest as a child. I fell in love with the organization in 8th grade when I realized all of opportunities there was to become involved in and represent myself, my school, and my state,” said Ketner.

With so many options in FFA, Ketner has taken the opportunity to involve herself in many of them and get the full FFA experience.

“I have enjoyed so many things about being involved in FFA but my most favorite is the connections I have made throughout my county, state and even on a national level. I have been able to make lifelong friends every year since the 8th grade,” said Ketner. “I have been a chapter officer, met with Oklahoma representatives to advocate for FFA, given multiple speeches, shown pigs all over the county and been involved in raising donations to support The Charis Foundation and the yearly angel tree.”

Showing hogs is not the only thing Ketner is involved in at school. She currently serves as Class President and is a member of the Book Club and FCA. Ketner also plays fastpitch and slow-pitch softball.

Ketner said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.

“Do it! FFA is an organization which allows you to grow as a person, leader and pushes you to get out of your comfort zone. The lifelong friends made through this organization is unlike any other opportunity you will have as a student,” said Ketner.

Only a junior, Ketner is making plans for life after high school. “I am currently in the cosmetology program through Red River Tech. I plan to go to OSU-IT to pursue a degree in nursing. I would like to specialize in skin care and help people or all ages gain confidence in their appearance,” said Ketner.
