Cameron University senior Khmari Edwards is a former stand-out student-athlete at Del City High School. Upon graduating, Edwards knew she wanted to continue her education and softball career at the next level. She chose Cameron University to do so.
“I am a fifth-year senior at Cameron,” Edwards said. “I will leave Cameron with a Masters of Science in Psychology.”
As a college level student-athlete, Edwards has made the most of every opportunity afforded her at Cameron. From stepping onto the field and competing with her teammates to building lifelong bonds with her professors, Edwards is an outstanding example of what a person can accomplish as a student-athlete.
“What I’ve enjoyed the most about being on the softball team are the bonds and memories I get to make with my teammates,” Edwards said.
Attending Cameron University was an easy decision for Edwards. Its close proximity to home and the size of the campus were all factors in her decision.
“It wasn’t too far from home and the coaching staff made it feel like my home away from home,” Edwards said. “The smaller campus allows for closer bonds with staff and professors.”
There is always an adjustment to life on your own. For Edwards, finding balance meant making her schedule work for her and utilizing her time off to complete tasks away from the field.
“The biggest adjustment going from high school to college was combining school and softball and finding that happy balance between practice, workouts, class, and studying,” said Edwards.
Edwards is now considering pursuing a career in coaching at either the high school or college levels. The senior offers this advice to other students who are entering college for the first time next fall.
“College is what you make it so study and work hard but remember to breathe and have fun,” said Edwards.
