Cameron University Spotlight: Del City’s Khmari Edwards – Presented by Cameron University

Following a standout softball career at Del City High School, Khmari Edwards knew she wanted to take her athletic and academic talents to Cameron University.

The university’s proximity to her hometown — just under 100 miles — and the size of the campus were equally factored into her decision.

“It wasn’t too far from home and the coaching staff made it feel like my home away from home,” Edwards says. “The smaller campus allows for closer bonds with staff and professors.”

As a student, Edwards strives to maximize the opportunities afforded to her at Cameron. She is an outstanding example of what a student-athlete can accomplish.

“What I’ve enjoyed the most about being on the softball team are the bonds and memories I get to make with my teammates,” Edwards said.

Now a fifth-year senior, the infielder is on-track to “leave Cameron with a master of science in psychology,” and is considering a career in coaching after graduation, but she has not discerned between high school or college.

Edwards admits adjusting to college life was challenging. She found balance by judiciously organizing her schedule around softball, using her time away from the sport to maximize her academic productivity — “finding that happy balance between practice, workouts, class and studying,” Edwards says.

To high school graduates enrolling in college this fall, Edwards offered this advice:

“College is what you make it, so study and work hard, but remember to breathe and have fun.”
