Newcastle’s Ashlyn Vasquez – FFA Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma AgCredit

Newcastle High School senior Ashlyn Vasquez is an active student-athlete for the Racers. A two-sport athlete in cross country and track, Vasquez serves as the Newcastle FFA Chapter

President and is a member of National Honor Society.

“I first got involved in FFA when I was in the eighth grade. My dad showed animals in FFA when he was younger and I wanted to follow in his footsteps,” said Vasquez.
Her love for animals and her ability to lead are two big reasons Vasquez has excelled in FFA.

“I enjoy the leadership aspect and meeting new people the most. I showed pigs for three years and goats for one year,” said Vasquez.

The senior takes that same approach to her athletics and representing Newcastle High School.

“I love absolutely everything about being on the cross country team, especially how
competitive everyone is. It is such a hard sport to be in but is the most rewarding in my opinion. I love the relationships you build by being a part of the cross country team. My teammates have become my best friends,” said Vasquez.

Vasquez said her parents are the biggest influences in her life.

“Both of my parents are the most influential people in my life. They have taught me to work hard in everything I do, which has helped me in every aspect of life. I could not do any of the things I do without them, they are my biggest supporters.”

As for FFA, Vasquez hopes new students will look into the program and give it a try.
“I would tell them that it is the most fun you will ever have. Meeting new people constantly, traveling, going to conferences/conventions, and getting to be a leader all while learning valuable life lessons is so worth it,” said Vasquez.

Up next…enrolling at Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she will run cross country and track while pursuing a degree in business and marketing. Vasquez said she plans to be a member of the President’s Leadership Class at SEOSU.
