When Brooke Brown of Amber-Pocasset High School joined the FFA, she knew showing animals was not required for its members to contribute to the overall success of the program.

“I first got involved in FFA my freshman year of high school. My mom encouraged me to get involved as she was in FFA in high school.” Brown clarified that she does not show livestock – there’s much more to FFA than showing, she said.

“I have been asked this question by a lot of people because they do not realize that you don’t have to show an animal to be in FFA. There are a lot of other activities that you can participate in and be an FFA member,” said Brown.

This year Brown is a member of the marketing team. She and her teammates are working hard to make a splash at state.

“This year I am competing on the marketing team where our goal is to win state. I am also the chapter secretary. I love that you learn so many life skills being in FFA and I have made many friends from competing in competitions and going to the state convention,” said Brown.

Also a member of National Honor Society, Brown serves as junior class president and she is a member of the varsity basketball team.

“I love the memories I’ve made being able to go to state two of the past three years in basketball. I will never forget how I felt in those moments being surrounded by my teammates and accomplishing what we did. Without an athletic program, I never would have been able to experience those moments. I love how close a relationship we all have. We are a family. We have each other’s backs. We encourage each other every day, whether it’s in practice, games or everyday life. I want the best for my teammates,” said Brown.

After high school Brown plans to attend college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in physical therapy or another area in the medical field.
