The Elgin High School softball team is having a great season this year with over 20 wins,
seven of those by shutout.
One senior enjoying her final year of prep fastpitch softball is Kelly Langford. Langford said
there are many reasons to be excited for the team this season and for seasons to come.

“I love this group because of their dedication and determination to get over any rough
patches that we may have had during the season. No matter what they’re willing to leave it
all on the field. Our freshman Kynli Garret and our sophomore Kelby Carter, they both have
six home runs on the season so far and are doing great in the field. Also, Dezirae Monnassey
and Kamber Crow who have both been pitching a great season,” said Langford.
Langford grew up playing several sports including golf, which she still plays today.
“I have played a few other sports while growing up that I really enjoy, but softball has
always had a huge place in my heart right along with golf,” said Langford. “Elgin is such a
great place to be a student-athlete because of all the support from coaches, teachers, and
community.”
This season Langford said the team has made some great plays and some great memories.
“My favorite moment this season was singing the National Anthem on the way to Ardmore
and the teams actually ended up having to sing it before the game, because they couldn’t
get theirs to work,” said Langford.
In the classroom Langford said her favorite subject is writing.
“My favorite subject has always been English because I love writing, but I do have to say my
favorite teacher has been my math teacher Mrs. Evans. I plan to major in Education in
college,” said Langford.
The senior has been a part of NJHS and NHS throughout middle school and high school. As
for the Class of 2024?
“I hope my class is remembered for representing our athletics with class and having good
sportsmanship,” said Langford.
