Elgin High School’s Jace Williams – Football Spotlight – Presented by Arvest Bank

Elgin High School junior Jace Williams is the definition of a student-athlete. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Honor Society.

“My favorite subject is math this year. I’ll be taking college algebra. My favorite teacher is Mrs. Ferguson who has helped me through the upper levels of math,” said Williams. “Elgin is a great place to be a student-athlete because we have great teachers who support us in the classroom and support us on the field by attending games and sporting events. Our coaches not only give us their all on the field but also push us in the classroom. Coach Wyatt gave the team a goal to get a 100 percent on the first assignment this year.”

Williams plans to attend college and major in math.

“I am looking for some sort of math degree at this time. I’m leaning toward either statistics or actuarial science,” said Williams.

A starting left tackle and nose guard for the Owls, Williams is excited to get the season started.

“I’ve played football since kindergarten, and it has always been my favorite sports.

Wrestling is a close second which I’ve also competed in since kindergarten. My favorite part is just how much of a team we all are. We have all played together since little league which just makes the bond we share so close,” said Williams.
The junior said there are several players on the team everyone should watch this season.

“One thing about us that we are a complete team with great players all over the field. But if I have to name a couple players our quarterback Tres Lorah has been working all since last year and has looked great in practice. Matt Lund is in a great position to break the school all-time rushing record. Keith Ferguson is a great guard and nasty puller. Colyn Donnelly is the quarterback of our defense he has a knack for knowing where the ball is going before the play starts. Jack Angelly is probably the smallest D-lineman in 5A but he is almost unblockable in pass rush situations,” said Williams. “My eighth-grade year we went 0-9. My freshman season we went 4-6 and missed playoffs by one game. Last year we were 8-3 and lost in the first round. This year the goal is a state championship and we’ve been working harder than even to achieve it. We want to be remembered as the first team to win a state championship in Elgin history.
