Hi, what are you looking for?

Cache

Q&A with Cache Athletic Director Lisa O’Kelley – Presented by Arvest

VYPE: How long have you been an athletic director at Cache?
Lisa: Two years.
VYPE: Where did you go to high school? When did you graduate? What sports did you
play?
Lisa: Cache. 1985. Basketball and track.
VYPE: What is your proudest accomplishment?
Lisa: Raising three children who are really great human beings with hearts of gold.
Proudest moment from sports comes every time I see or hear from a former athlete and
realize my time with them made a difference to them.
VYPE: How do you like to spend your free time?
Lisa: Being out in nature; gardening; remodeling; restoring things.
VYPE: Who has inspired you the most?
Lisa: My late husband inspired me the most during our time together. He had the perfect
balance of discipline and gentleness. In his battle with cancer, he never complained and
exhibited strength beyond imagination. Never did he lose his sense of humor and his
gentleness.
VYPE: What is your favorite way to unwind?
Lisa: Go for a walk in nature.
VYPE: What do you think is the most essential life skill?
Lisa: Kenny [Rogers] said it best: “Know when to hold ‘em; Know when to fold ‘em; Know
when to walk away; Know when to run.” Discernment is the best life skill.
VYPE: Where did you start your coaching career? Coaching what sports?
Lisa: Walters Public Schools in 1990. Basketball and track.
VYPE: Do you have a coaching/teaching mentor? Someone you have looked up to for
advice. Why?
Lisa: I have looked up to a few coaches as examples, and all are coaches who coach with
heart and faith. Sherri Coale, Dabo Swinney, Pat Summitt…all greats!
VYPE: What is the message to athletes at Cache under your guidance and leadership?
Lisa: You are part of something bigger than yourself; you have a responsibility when you
are a Bulldog athlete to put forth your greatest effort, represent yourself, your family, your
school, and your community in the best way possible. What you do matters; we are
Bulldogs together.
VYPE: Where is your favorite place to eat dinner (eating out)? What’s your choice
from the menu?

Lisa: Chuy’s Mexican food. We need one in Lawton!
VYPE: What is your favorite sports team from the college or pro ranks?
Lisa: No favorite; I will watch any good sporting event!
