The Velma- Alma Cheer Team is looking to bring the hype to Velma, Oklahoma this year.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Herring, the team is looking to bring excitement to
various sporting games and events. “Our goals for this year are to foster school spirit
through sideline cheering, pep rallies, sponsoring a little cheer clinic for elementary, and
serving through the comet reader program in the elementary school,” Coach Herring
shares.
As the team is looking to make an impact on those around them, it would not be
possible without intentional leadership and impactful, team-wide positivity. “The
cheerleaders serve as positive role models throughout the year as well as improving their
cheer skills. Through drills learned at camp, they have developed more stunt skills which
enables them to entertain the crowd and improve spirit at games.” Each member of the
team brings a unique skill or asset that allows for the improvement and growth of the team
all together. “ The squad consists of sophomores Daylee Hall, Graci Lockwood, Bailey Dunn,
Raven Chandler, Paige Wainscott and Khloe Kulbeth. These sophomores have brought new
skills to the squad. Raven also competes with a private gym and has been a great addition
to help with stunting and tumbling. Juniors are Addie Herring, Mallory Foster Anderson
and Jessie Foster Anderson. Jessie and Mallory have strong dance skills and have helped
choreograph throughout the season. Addie has strong stunt skills as a base and has helped
greatly in stunts with demonstrating skills. Seniors Abby Bartling, Savannah Wainscott and
Jadyn Lowry demonstrate leadership skills while serving as captains on the sidelines.” With
strong coaching, good morale, and an impressive roster, it is clear that the team is set up to
have a successful season of bringing school spirit to Velma-Alma High School.
