Rush Springs Redskins 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented By First National Bank & Trust Co.

RUSH SPRINGS REDSKINS

Coach: TIM BEARD

3-7

OFFENSE

Rush Springs head coach Tim Beard likes the “three yards and a cloud of dust” offensive approach. This year’s Redskins offense, which returns seven starters from 2022, will employ the old school Wing-T out of a shotgun snap. Cord Jones (5-9, 145, So.) will be the team’s starting quarterback Week 0 at Empire and, if things go according to plan, will develop as the Redskins starter through the 2025 season. The bell cow backs are Ayden Stamper (5-10, 190, Jr.) and Chris Crow (6-2, 180, Jr.). Stamper, an elusive, speedy back, seems to slip between defenders like water leaking from a crack and hopes to be similarly productive this fall. Crow, a dynamic back, can bounce it outside and burst into open grass but also displayed great pass-catching skills last year. Gabe Scott (5-11, 200, Sr.), the team’s four-year starting center, is among District A-4’s best returning offensive linemen.

DEFENSE

The Rush Springs defense brings back seven starters from last year. It will base out of an even front and will prioritize stunts that pressure opposing quarterbacks. Opposing A-4 will see double all year; twins Lane (6-1, 180, Sr.) and Zane Sharp (6-1, 180, Sr.) are the Redskins’ best returning defensive ends and even Beard “can’t tell them apart.” Aaron Chestnut (5-10, 185, Sr.) will anchor the defense at nose guard. Slade Spear (5-8, 150, Jr.) is an anticipatory playmaker at outside backer with punishing tackling. At corner, Justice Cooper (5-9, 140, Sr.) is the team’s top returning defensive back, and what he lacks in stature, he makes up for with big play potential.
