Four-sport Ringling High School junior Kysen Fincher is primed and ready for a big spring.
He plays football, basketball, track and baseball for the Blue Devils. His coaches rave about his versatility.
“Kysen is a good utility player,” his coach said. “I can put him in any position on the field and he will do a good job for me. He works hard when he is on the bases, always pushing for the next base.”
It’s a tough balance, especially in the second semester.
“It’s hard, like, I gotta go from a track meet to a [baseball] game,” Fincher said.
It runs in the family. Fincher’s brother was an all-state running back and state champion in 2019. His cousin started at quarterback when Ringling won a championship in 2012.
“I would say they helped me to get where I’m at today, and also I’m a part of going back-to-back in track and I placed third in pole vault last year,” Fincher said, “but [I’m] trying to win state.”
His dad also played football and baseball and his mother played basketball.
“I started playing T-ball at a really young age, been playing since,” Fincher said. “I started basketball in first grade, started football in second, started track in sixth, been doing them all ever since I started them, and I just fell in love with sports. I always was trying to be the best. I’m really competitive.
”I would say I’m probably the most competitive in my family.”
Fincher plays all over the field for Ringling. He’s an excellent player with a bag full of tools, something he credits God for.
“I just thank God for everything,” Fincher said.
After high school, Fincher is open to playing collegiate sports.
“I mean, yeah, If it happens that way, but if not, that’s fine,” Fincher jokes, “because I don’t have the best knees.”
