Hadon Wade is a senior cheerleader, basketball player, softball player, and track athlete for the Ringling Blue Devils. If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, she’s also the Ringling FFA chapter vice-president as well.
“Coming from a rural town, FFA is a very important leadership role,” Wade said. “For example, our FFA chapter helps at the local food banks, and runs the can drive. Through FFA I have made many friends from speech competitions, conventions, and conferences. I showed pigs for six years, but had stopped to focus on sports and other aspects of FFA. However, this year I have decided to show a goat. Right now I have my goat to prepare for show season, and the first show will be at the end of February.”
Through FFA, Wade said, she is able to give back to a community who she said has already given her so much.
“I have gained a lot of confidence from meeting new people and going to speech competitions that I will carry with me as I go on to college,” she said. “Also, I have had many learning opportunities about the agriculture industry that I wouldn’t have had if I wasn’t in FFA.
“FFA isn’t just about farming and showing animals,” she added. “Currently in my Ag class we are building Adirondack chairs, so we’re learning carpentry skills. Also, there are many scholarships a student can receive through FFA. Overall, it’s a good character building organization that I am proud to represent by wearing the blue corduroy jacket.”
Wade said she doesn’t get much free time, but when she does she likes hanging out with her friends, and playing with her five dogs.
“I also like going shopping and watching television,” she said. “On the side I have stocker cattle that graze wheat then finish at the feed lot. My dad has been very helpful teaching me about the cattle business and helping me with it.”
