Current FFA chapter vice president Ava Boozer was first exposed to agriculture in the fourth grade when she began showing livestock.
It wasn’t until the eighth grade that she joined FFA. Now a junior, Boozer said she loves being part of FFA and all the opportunities the program has given her.
“What I enjoy most about FFA is making so many lifelong friendships every time we go somewhere and how it’s made me get out of my comfort zone and try new things that I’ve really come to enjoy, and it’s made me a better leader,” said Boozer.
Boozer is involved in public speaking, quiz contests, livestock judging and showing livestock.
“I have previously shown pigs and cattle but now I am showing goats,” said Boozer.
One reason Boozer encourages other students to consider FFA is the amount of support the students share with one another.
“I was probably most encouraged to get involved because all of the upperclassmen I looked up to were involved and showed livestock,” said Boozer. “My advice to a student considering joining FFA would be to just dive in headfirst and try everything you’re interested in even if it scares you.”
Also a member of the softball and basketball teams, Boozer is one of the hosts for the media class, “Dawg Show” and takes classes in biomedical science at Red River Technology Center.
The junior said she plans on either playing softball at the next level or rodeo barrel racing and pole bending in college, while pursuing a medical or agriculture-related degree.
But before she walks to the stage, Boozer said she is focused on helping her basketball team win.
“What I love most about being on the basketball team is getting to compete alongside some of my best friends and make memories with them outside of school and I really just love to compete in general,” said Boozer.
