Laura Jo Stewart loves to play the game of golf. As an avid golfer, she has worked hard to become the golfer she is today. During her career as a golfer for Duncan High School, Stewart has had some memorable moments, but she has a couple that stand out as her favorite. 

“The highlight moment of my career would have to be when I placed first in the large school division at Prairie West,” she recalled. “Also, placing tenth at state as a freshman was really cool too.”

Laura is a sophomore at Duncan, where she is also a member of the National Honor Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, Student Council, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Students Against Drunk Driving, and Jolly Jills.

There have been a few people that have had an impact on her as a golfer and she is thankful for the role that they have played.

“One of my biggest role models is my personal Coach Mike Hansen,” she said. “He has been my coach since I started playing and he doesn’t mince words and tells me how it is. Second, my good friend, Chuck Hill.  He just passed away and I am playing the rest of this year for him.  I want him to be proud of me and my golf game.”

Staying motivated throughout the season is not something that is a problem for Stewart. She says that she wants to continue what has been a solid program.

“My competitiveness is probably my biggest motivation,” she said. “I am always trying to improve my game. I am very proud to represent Duncan High School and the Duncan community.  Duncan typically has a great golf program for both boys and girls.  Honestly, I feel that pressure to do well.”

When she has downtime, there are a few people that Stewart likes to follow, but she has one person that helps her see that her goals are attainable.

“JJ Gregston is the person I enjoy the most on social media,” she said. “I would love to play college golf and watching JJ succeed at playing college golf is an inspiration.”
