Duncan’s Allison Bailey Athlete Spotlight Presented by Delaine Parker Shelter Insurance

By Chance Burk

Allison Bailey is a senior at Duncan High School. She is a part of the volleyball team and also participates in student council and is the senior class treasurer. In the classroom, Allison maintains a 4.26 GPA and is a part of the National Honor Society.

Although volleyball is Allison’s main sport, it was not always her focus. “I didn’t start volleyball until my eighth-grade year because I had done gymnastics most of my life until I had to quite due to an injury,” said Allison. Although she only has five years of experience, Allison has developed into a very talented volleyball player. She enjoys the bond she shares with her teammates and coaching staff.

Allison finds motivation from her teammates. “Without my teammates, I wouldn’t have a reason to push myself. They’re all extremely talented and we push each other every day,” said Allison. She also believes that it is important to teach the underclassmen that a “good attitude through tough circumstances will take you farther than you think.”

Outside of volleyball, the biggest thing in Allison’s life is her family and her faith. She is very thankful to have a loving and supportive family. They have helped shape her into the person she is today and they are a major part of her life. Outside of family, Allison takes her faith very seriously.  “My relationship with God is what keeps me going,” said Allison. Faith has always been a major factor in who she is. She has been a firm believer her entire life and she walks a life of faith every day. Allison also added, “I know in the back of my mind that my performance on the court doesn’t define me.” The sense of relief that her faith provides her is a big reason for the attitude Allison approaches each game with. In the future, Allison plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in education. Although she is unsure what age or level she wants to pursue a career in, she feels her calling is to be around kids. Aside from teaching, she also hopes to take on a coaching career. Through the hardships and obstacles Allison has had to overcome, she has learned life lessons that will help her dominate in the world post-graduation.
