Finley Davis is a freshman shortstop and pitcher on the Duncan High School softball team and just completed her first season playing at the high school level. Davis impressed coaches with her positive attitude and  great power at the plate.

“My first year playing at the high school level went very well and I think it was a great learning experience for me,” Davis said. “The thing that surprised me the most was how much I was taught not only as a player but as a teammate and person.”

Duncan softball had a successful season and made the state tournament which was a fun experience for Davis who, as a freshman, often turned to her veteran teammates for advice.

“I definitely looked up to all of the seniors and most of the sophomores as they were always so encouraging and helped everyone push through and finish every play and every game no matter how many mistakes they made,” Davis said.

It was a memorable year for Davis and she is looking forward to the next three years of competition. One moment from this season stood out as her favorite.

“My favorite memory from this year was playing Piedmont in the state tournament when KK threw two runners out that were stealing second that haven’t been thrown out all year,” Davis said. “The whole team was celebrating those plays.”

While Davis can play multiple positions on the diamond she does have a preference.

“I play shortstop and pitcher but my favorite position would probably be shortstop because I love talking my pitcher and teammates up and having my pitcher’s back while being on the field,” Davis said. “My favorite thing about softball is playing with my team and having the whole field to go all out and make plays for your teammates.”

While Davis spends a lot of time working on her softball game she is also active in basketball and golf. She is also a great student as well, member of the student council, and said that her favorite subject is math.
