Mason Imel is a junior at Duncan High School and plays on the Demons’ basketball team.

Imel is very active in Duncan with school activities and athletics and aside from basketball also plays on the varsity baseball team, is active in student council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. However, as winter takes hold Imel currently is focused on basketball.

“I started playing basketball around the third grade,” Imel says. “My favorite part of being on a team is the brotherhood.”

For Imel, basketball has provided many great opportunities both in Duncan and around the state that he will remember for the rest of his life. Recently Imel had a fun opportunity to participate in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s “Thunder Dream Court Games.”

Imel and his teammates were invited to play in Oklahoma City on the Thunder’s home floor and in front of their home crowd -a very cool experience- and a moment that Imel said is, and probably will, be remembered as his favorite memory playing basketball.

As a junior, Imel is looking forward to competing hard this year with the Demons. As the season continues on, Imel is working hard both on the court and in the classroom. He has set some goals for himself.

“My goals for this season are to get better at the game and have fun,” Imel said. “In the classroom I hope to maintain my 4.0 GPA.”

Over the years Imel has received many words of wisdom from friends, family, coaches and teachers. However, now as a junior in high school there is one sentiment that has stuck with him that he thinks of often.

“The best piece of advice that I have received is to remember [high school] is only four years,” Imel says. “So enjoy the games as much as you can.”

Although Imel is only a junior in high school he has already begun planning ahead for the future. While he is not 100% on his future, for now, he says that he would like to attend Oklahoma State University to continue his education.
