Addie Siess is a junior at Duncan High School and competes on the Lady Demons basketball team, playing power forward and guard.

Siess’ basketball journey began in the seventh grade. She appreciates everything that the game has provided for her since then.

“My favorite thing about basketball is how, no matter what you’re going through, basketball is there,” Siess says, “no matter what.”

Basketball has been a passion for Siess since she started playing, but she keeps herself busy year-round with volleyball and golf – she is even a percussionist in the school’s band. Siess is a cerebral player who uses her creativity on and off the court.

“The skill I think I’m the best at is the way I can move inside and outside of the paint,” Siess says. “No matter if there is a big or a guard, I’ll find a way to adjust and score.”

Over the offseason Siess has been looking to expand and add onto her game. Siess said she has been working to finish stronger under the basket and has been working on her offhand moves and ball control.

“There have been so many ‘highlights’ that I’ve had, but the one I’m most proud of is how I have grown since I started playing,” Siess says.

Siess finds encouragement from friends, family, and teammates in Duncan. Another person who has inspired Siess is University of Connecticut standout Paige Bueckers. Siess considers Bueckers to be an inspiration for her efforts both on and off the court and hopes to follow in her footsteps as she continues her own journey as a student-athlete.

“(Buckers) shows what a true teammate is,” Siess says. “No matter what she’s been through, she’s always there for her team.”

As Siess has two years of high school competition left she has already began planning ahead for her future.

“When I graduate I want to go play college basketball somewhere,” Siess says. “I don’t have my heart set on anywhere. I just want to go somewhere that fits me and has what I need to be successful with sports and academics.”
