Duncan girls tennis looks to carry on the school’s tradition with “another strong season” this spring.

“Coming off a sixth-place finish at state, we lost four seniors off of our starting six from last year,” head coach Darren Cobble said. “We are very young, but we are very hungry to be good. We are looking to gain experience and improve as the year goes on.”

Sheridan White, who finished as a state-runner up in No. 2 doubles last year, is one of the team’s strongest returners. She also earned fourth in the same event the year before.

“[White] is looking to be our senior leader to guide some young talent through the season,” Cobble said.

Junior Emersen Villagrana, a 4.0 student, will play in one of Duncan’s singles spots.

Freshman Bailee Howard will play in a doubles slot for the Demons.

“[Howard] is very competitive and an extremely hard worker,” Cobble said.

Cobble said sophomore Julia Haney is his most improved player.

“[Haney] puts in the hours on the court and she’s always looking to get better,” Cobble said. “Her best tennis is yet to come.”

Ava Miller, also a sophomore, is a competitive, mature player.

“I never have to worry about Ava doing the right thing. She is a blessing to have on our team,” Cobble said.
