Chickasha High School senior Adrian Martinez is a member of the varsity volleyball team and a member of National Honor Society. As a student-athlete, Martinez said she is thankful to attend a school where the staff and her peers give support to all students.

“Chickasha HS offers a supportive and inclusive environment for student athletes. The sports programs provide opportunities for both beginner and experienced athletes to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Coaches prioritize the overall well-being of their athletes, furthering a culture of respect and teamwork. The school’s dedication to academic excellence ensures that athletes receive a well-rounded education, stay on top of their grades, and are prepared for success beyond graduation. Additionally, Chickasha HS promotes top-notch facilities and equipment, enhancing the experience of being a student athlete,” said Martinez.

Like many of her peers, Martinez tried several different sports growing up, but settled on volleyball as her sport of choice.

“Growing up I tried different sports with my family and friends but not competitively. As I reached sixth grade, I became aware of volleyball practice being held over the summer. Being a sport I hadn’t played yet, I joined some of my friends and attended the practice. From that very first day, I discovered a passion for volleyball that surpassed all other sports I had played before. Ever since then, I have remained dedicated to playing and further developing my skills in this sport,” said Martinez.

At the start of this season, Martinez was sidelines due to an injury, but once she returned to the court, Martinez said the support was overwhelming.

“When I finally returned to play my first game, the overwhelming support and cheers from my teammates and spectators upon stepping onto the court were truly exhilarating. The opportunity to make a comeback and continue competing in my beloved sport for the remainder of the season was undoubtedly the highlight for me,” said Martinez. “Throughout my years of playing volleyball, I have witnessed firsthand the tremendous support given by players, coaches, and even the crowd. It was undoubtedly the most enjoyable aspect of the sport. The energy and excitement received from all levels – whether on the court, bench, or stands – served as a motivating force in our performance. The thrill of competition and the satisfaction of working with others towards a shared goal are aspects that many find rewarding.”

After graduation, Martinez is planning to attend college, but where to attend is still in question.

“I am currently exploring various schools for my studies in Psychology. The Clinical Mental Health therapy role has piqued my interest, as has the prospect of becoming a traveling nurse,” said Martinez.
