Carnegie’s Bryson Longhat Leaves a Positive Impact on Teammates – Presented By: Gerron Smith – Shelter Insurance

By Payton Moody

High school sports, though everyone hopes to leave a match victorious, are not always about winning and losing. The relationships, toughness and drive one builds during are the memories that will last a lifetime. Bryson Longhat, a senior golfer and basketball player at Carnegie High School, believes that being a leader for others is the most impactful thing a high school athlete can do for their team.

“Sports have taught me so much,” Longhat said. “Sports has shown me the true characteristics of being a leader and what it means to have the will to win.”

A leader for any team must be accountable, passionate and determined if they are to lead well. Longhat feels these qualities have made him a more understanding and concise leader for Carnegie High School.

“Being able to push someone to be their best after overcoming an obstacle can play a big role in how someone will push through their problems in life,” Longhat said. “Being a person who others want to look up to could make a huge impact in someone’s life, and that is what I plan to do for my teammates and others.”

However, Longhat did not develop these leadership traits on his own.

“My dad impacted me the most in my life because of how he taught me the leadership skills that are needed throughout life,” Longhat said. “He has shaped me into the man I am today.”

Longhat is dedicated to helping others and being a team player, and his drive is evident in the extracurriculars he partakes in.

Longhat is involved in the Future Farmers of America, Junior Rotarian Club, Native American Heritage Club and the National Honor Society at Carnegie High School.

Future plans of Longhat’s include attending Oklahoma State University, where he will major in psychology and continue to use his leadership skills to be a voice for others.
