BLANCHARD LIONS

GIRLS

Head coach: David Sikes

2022-23 Record: 12-14

First-year Blanchard girls coach David Sikes has great expectations for his team this year. They finished one game short of .500 a year ago and bring back several talented scorers. Sadie Franklin (5-7, So.) put up 13.0 points, 2.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game last year as a rookie. “Sadie is a great young talent,” Sikes said. “She handles the basketball well, attacks the basket with power and shoots the outside shot at a high percentage. All this in just her freshman year. I look for Sadie to have an even bigger year this season.” Reese Carpenter (5-7, Sr.), another talented all-around player with starting experience, is monitoring a knee injury she sustained in the offseason. She fractured her foot just before summer break and missed summer team camps. Sikes commended Carpenter’s resiliency. “While we are waiting to see the severity of the injury, she has remained positive and been a very positive voice in our locker room and on our bench,” Sikes said. Kylann Dobbs (5-5, So.), a scrappy sophomore, looks to have a greater role in Sikes’ lineup. “Kylann is always in the right place at the right time. She does whatever is asked of her and is always finding ways to impact the game,” Sikes said. “She consistently is the first girl on the floor diving for loose balls and always has a great attitude.” The Lions open the season Dec. 1 at Duncan. After a weekend in the Bethel Tournament on Dec. 7-9, they will play their home-opener before a crimson crowd Dec. 12 against Newcastle. They will take on the Noble Tournament on Jan. 4-6 and the Bridge Creek Tournament on Jan. 18-20.
