Binger-Oney Slowpitch Softball Spotlight – Presented by Binger-Oney Softball Booster Club

Long-time Binger-Oney High School softball coach Jason Wilson took his No. 2 ranked team to the state tournament this season, but fell short in the semifinals to Canute. After 22 years of coaching, Wilson has seen it all, but it’s the relationships he values the most.

“What I value the most are the relationships that have been formed with players, coaches, and parents. And being part of something as great as our program,’ said coach Wilson.

This season coach Wilson and the team would finish with a 31-10 record overall. Coach Wilson said this squad was fun to coach and they worked hard to have a shot in the end.

“This season, simply put, a blast. I have enjoyed almost every minute of this spring season,” said coach Wilson. “I’ve been impressed with their toughness and willingness to make sacrifices to improve.”

Coach Wilson said he enjoys the game when the players completely buy in and they start to see positive results. Playing both fastpitch and slowpitch can help.

“The obvious advantages are more reps, ground balls, fly balls and swings. However, just as important is the team building and growing as a unit,” said Wilson.

The approach to the season can vary for coach Wilson depending on several factors.

“Goals remain the same, the amount of hard work and effort that goes into each season stays the same, however, my approach and the way I talk to and deal with players changes constantly,” said Wilson.

Support for the softball team is never in question. The administration, parents and students love to see their softball players succeed and come out in force for the big games.

“The school and community support at Binger have always been strong. It is one of the reasons I will probably be a Bobcat the rest of my life,” said Wilson.

The head coach had one last thing to say about his lone senior who departs after this spring.

“I only have the one graduating. Kylan, thank you for your sacrifices and hard work. You will be missed and are very much appreciated,” said Wilson.
