Anadarko’s Layton Cyrus – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Bank of Commerce

Layton Cyrus just graduated from Anadarko, putting an end to his high school athletic career featuring football, wrestling, and track. He played football since he was five years old, began wrestling in seventh grade, and started track his freshman year. Layton utilized lessons from his sports in all areas of his life.

“I use all the loses and challenges I have had to motivate me to be my best and work harder every day,” he said.

Layton recalls his favorite sports memories as winning second in state with his relay team this year, summer training for football, and making it to state in wrestling his junior year. Outside of athletics he was also involved with NHS (National Honor Society), Art Club, Native American Club, F.I.S.H. Club (Focus, Inspiration, Share, Hook, Bethel Youth Group, and student council.

As if his schedule didn’t sound full enough, Layton is known for community involvement and going above and beyond to help in many different ways.

“Layton is a hometown hero because he is a role model to the youth and even his peers,” says Alyssa McDowell. “He is always trying to be involved and help others in every way. Layton has three brothers that look up to him, but they aren’t the only people. I believe he has made a change in the community and continues to do so.”

Layton’s favorite way to help out is at his church, as well as the community service projects through student council and NHS.

“It shows the community that you care and you are always willing to help the people who were always there and supported me,” he remarked on the importance of involvement.

Layton plans to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and earn a degree in electrical engineering.
