ALEX LONGHORNS

Coach: JACOB OTEY

0-10

OFFENSE

“There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But, with hard work, there are no limits.”  After an 0-10 season in 2022, the Longhorns are out to prove they have the ability to return to a winning record this fall. Anchored around the return of five starters, head coach Jacob Otey has the foundation for success led by a trio of seniors. Kyler Boatright (6-2, 185, Sr.) returns at quarterback to direct the pro formation style offense. Other seniors returning include offensive lineman Ethan Compton (5-11, 195, Sr.) and Dodge Woods (5-10, 155, Sr.) who will team with Karter Seward (5-9, 140, So.) at wide receiver. The ‘Horns will look for Lynnden Mowdy (6-1, 165, Jr.) to be the workhorse at running back.

DEFENSE

The opportunity for Alex to control the defensive side of the football will be paramount for the 2023 season as four starters return to the 3-2-3 alignment. Boatright will be charged with protecting the edge as well as wreaking havoc in the opponents’ backfield from his defensive end position while Compton plugs the gap at nose guard. Mowdy will chase the football from his linebacker position and Woods will play a key role in the secondary.

“Though all of last year’s challenges, we learned some real lessons about the game of football, said Otey. “The result is a determined mindset for success that has brought this group close together for this year.” Alex will play four of its first six games at home including the season opener against Tipton, the defending Class C state champion and then week four will travel to meet the 2022 Class B state champion Laverne.
