ALEX LONGHORNS
GIRLS
Coach: Mark Prince
2022-23 Record: 12-12
Alex head coach Mark Prince will field a unique rotation this year. He only has one senior and one junior on his roster (the remaining 12 are sophomores and freshmen), yet Alex returns four starters from last year’s team. “Even though we’re young, we have lots of experience returning,” Prince said. “Pretty athletic and like to get up and down the court in transition.” Alex opens at home Nov. 30 against Verden. Kaity Byrum, the team’s lone returning senior, will lead the Longhorns into battle. “[Byrum] led us in scoring last year and was Grady County All-Tournament team as well as the second-team all-conference team,” Prince said. “She has improved on her perimeter game this summer and expect her to be even better on defensive pressure on opposing teams’ guards.” Madison Byrne (So.) and McKenna Hurley (So.), both who started as freshman, will fill important roles on both ends of the floor again this year. “Both of these girls are sophomores and returning starters from last year,” Prince said. “They have both put in extra work this summer and are ready to take the next step in their game.” The Longhorns will play in the Chattanooga Tournament on Dec. 7-9; the Longhorn Classic at home Jan. 4-6; and the Grady County Tournament on Jan. 15.
