ALEX LONGHORNS
BOYS
Coach: Isaac Byrne
2022-23 Record: 14-12
Alex head coach Isaac Byrne’s 13 years of experience will come in handy this year as he returns an inexperienced group for the 2023-24 season. “We will be young. Only one returning starter from last season,” Byrne said. “Kyler Boatwright is our only senior but is a very experienced player. . . We look for him to have a great season for us this year” Boatwright (6-3) averaged 10.0 points per game last year. The strong guard-forward can score from the inside and the outside. “Lynnden Mowdy (6-1, Jr.)
is one guy that didn’t play a lot of varsity minutes last season but will be a large part of our team this year. Ryder Doty (5-7, Jr.) will run the point and he is a great defender and decision-maker who has improved offensively quite a bit since last year.” Doty, whom Byrne also called a “tough” player, turned in 3.0 points per game as a sophomore. “We do have some guys who will be playing lots of minutes this season with limited varsity minutes, but we expect them to progress quickly. We feel this team will be very competitive at the end of the season.” The Longhorns will open at home Nov. 30 against Verden. They’ll play in the Chattanooga Tournament on Dec. 7-9; the Longhorn Classic on Jan. 4-6; and the Grady County Tournament on Jan. 15-20.
