A cross country runner for Lone Grove High School, Kasey Smith is in his freshman season and is loving every minute of it. From competing against upperclassmen to being involved in FFA, Smith said he is having fun in both activities.
“I enjoy being involved in school activities with my friends. FFA takes most of my free time, but I also enjoy running cross country. Our XC team is very young, we are all freshmen. I am excited to see our growth in the next few years,” said Smith.
Showing livestock is one of his activities that gobbles up most of Smith’s time away from school and cross country.
“I really like showing animals. I had pigs for two years and just started showing cattle. I also like the shooting sports that FFA offers. FFA allows me to meet new people from different schools,” Smith said. “I transferred to Lone Grove in sixth grade to be involved in FFA. The school I attended didn’t have FFA and I had a passion for agriculture. I started showing pigs in seventh grade. A family friend was raising and showing pigs and sometimes she would ask me to feed for her. I got interested and then she invited me to the Carter County show, where she won! I knew then that I wanted to show animals.”
This is Smith’s first year in FFA, and he plans to attend his first leadership conference and do some livestock judging.
Once Smith completes high school, he plans to attend college at OSU Tech and become a certified diesel technician.
