Navajo Softball Spotlight – Emry Solis- Presented by Chad Lee State Farm

Everyone wants to be successful at something, although success can have a different meaning to each individual person. Emry Solis is an athlete at Navajo High School and she works hard so she is ready when competition time arrives. She knows that as an athlete, working hard is important if you want to see results.

“For me to be successful it has taken a lot of work on my own time and working harder in practice,” she said. “Beginning of my sophomore year, I didn’t have a starting position in the field and that’s when I really decided it was time to go to work. Another thing is being a coachable athlete is one of the most important traits to have.”

Solis, a junior, plays softball and basketball for the Indians. Away from sports, she is a member of the National Honor Society and the livestock show team. Emry says that being able to represent her school and community is something that makes her very proud.

“It means a lot to be able to have the opportunities we have had,” she said. “Things like going to the state tournament multiple times and having the support we had was great. We have the best community and parents.”

Though she loves her sports and playing alongside her teammates, when she steps onto the field or court, someone is missing that she knows is watching from elsewhere.

“The biggest role model in my life is my dad, who passed away this summer,” she said. “He is someone I’ve always wanted to resemble. He was the most hardworking and humble person I’ve ever met. He would always tell me ‘there’s no point of doing something if you’re not going to give it your all’. My dad won many awards at work and never bragged about them, and half of them I didn’t even know about. I want to be the greatest I can be because of him.”

There have been some memorable moments for Solis on the field and court, but she says that there is one game that stands out for her.

“The highlight of my sports career was when I hit two home runs in one game against Hydro,” she stated. “It was a great feeling to see hard work pay off and know that I was helping my team.”
