Navajo Indians 2021 Basketball Preview – Presented By Chad Lee State Farm

BOYS

Coach: Kale Thompson

20-21 Record: 9-13

The 2021-22 Navajo Indians will have a new look this season as head coach Kale Thompson welcomes in a new batch of players to the team. “This team is full of newcomers and young players. They bring a toughness and speed to the floor that will allow them to compete every night,” said coach Thompson. “This group has 11 freshmen and sophomores and collectively everyone loves to play. I’m really excited to see how our season plays out and our growth and maturity throughout.” Kaden Hurst (5-11, Sr.) is a defensive minded player who averaged 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Look for Hurst to up his game on the offensive end of the court. Caden Konen (6-0, Sr.) will start at shooting guard where he can knock down the three. Konen does not get rattled and will fire away at the basket. Brock Weiszbrod-Thompson (5-10, Fr.) enjoys creating shots for others, but has no problem finishing at the rim. Dallas Sanchez (5-10, Fr.) is another shooting guard with a quick step and a fluid stroke. Great court awareness and can score from the perimeter. Noah Hayman (5-9, So.) is tough to guard and even tougher to score on. KG Schmidt (5-0, So.) is the floor General who can penetrate and kick out to create opportunities for others. Also look for Corbin Reese to contribute this season. Reese will push his teammates and get the most out of everyone. The X-factor may be Holder Dunn. Dunn is the glue for this team.

GIRLS

Coach: Tim Ellison

20-21 Record: 20-4

After a 20-win season, head coach Tim Ellison is excited to return most of his team this season. “We lost one starter and have a bench that will step up and fill these shoes,” said coach Ellison. “We are excited about getting the season going and have a goal of making the state tournament this year.” There are several players to watch for Navajo this season including Abby Bates, Adison Warren, Ry’leigh Pennington, and Lindsey Moreau are the returning starters coach Ellison mentioned. Bates is a three-point shooter and a true competitor. Warren is the floor General and does all of the little things to help the team succeed. Other players looking to contribute are Parrish Norfleet, Avery Rempel, Emmy Rodriguez, Brookelynne Whitefield, Brenda Beruman and Hannah Ramirez. Norfleet is a tough player inside and runs the floor very well. Rempel is another player with high expectations this season. Also look for Sabrina Gilbert and Abby Brooks.
