Some athletes enjoy getting out and competing for their sport because they love the game or they love competition. But for people like Morgan White, the name across the jersey is more than just a name of their school.
“I am a fifth generation Mangum Tiger and my community and school mean so much to me,” she said. “And I hope with my leadership skills on and off the court and field that I can always lead by good example of sportsmanship and respect.”
Morgan is in her senior year at Mangum High School. She plays softball and basketball and is also a cheerleader. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the Future Farmers of America, the National Honor Society, Club Scrub, Gifted and Talented, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Throughout her career, White has done whatever it has taken to be at her best, even when it means overcoming obstacles that are in her path.
“It takes a lot of hustle and determination to be successful,” she said. “You just need to believe in yourself, and have the people and coaches around you believe in you and lift you up. One thing that keeps me motivated is wanting to improve myself and not let type-one diabetes define me or stand in the way of competing with my teammates.”
As a diabetic, it is helpful to Morgan to have those in her same situation to look up to. And she says that there is one that has helped her to learn a lot.
“My favorite person I follow on social media would have to be Lauren Cox,” she said. “She is a type-one diabetic and plays basketball at the next level. When I was first diagnosed with type-one diabetes, my mom took me to watch her play for the Baylor Bears, and her passion not to quit just because of this disease inspired me to always be the best I can be.”
