Lauryn York is a senior at Mangum High School, and her athletic abilities are not just limited to one sport. Lauryn is a center fielder in softball, a power forward in basketball, and she is also a cheerleading captain. She possesses a variety of skills that allow her to perform well in all three sports she participates in.
To Lauryn, each sport is special to her, and she has grown to love them each for their own unique reasons. When asked what she enjoys most about her sports, she was sure to emphasize her love for all three:
“What I enjoy most when playing softball is the team bonding and getting to use my skills in every aspect of the game. For basketball, I enjoy being able to play with my friends as a team and how the sport helps us build our team chemistry. In cheerleading, I love cheering on people in doing what they love as well.”
Being a senior that is very involved in Mangum athletics, Lauryn steps up to lead her peers. She recognizes the leadership opportunity that she has, and she has found that the best way to lead others is by being a good example. “From constantly being respectful, to making sure I’m treating everyone on the team equally,” York ensures fairness among all teammates and players regardless of who they are.
Athletics has been a large part of Laurens life, so she wanted to offer some advice to anyone who is interested in pursuing a sport:
“To anyone who would want to try these sports, I’d tell them just to follow their hearts. You won’t be the most perfect player when you start, it takes time and practice makes perfect. You need to have confidence in yourself even when no one else does!
