Keely Brown was introduced to volleyball for the first time as an eighth-grade student at Altus.
“I have now been playing volleyball for 4 years,” Brown said.
She started playing every chance she could get, including playing for club teams.
“I’d say the main thing that captured my attention is the teamwork and the bond teams have with
each other,” Brown said, “and I enjoy the fast pace and always having to be on your toes. I also
would watch hitters and just think to myself, ‘that is what I strive to be.’”
She has since come to enjoy bonding with her fellow Bulldogs as much as the sport itself.
“The main reason I enjoy playing with my teammates is we all have a good time while playing
and we’re positive,” Brown said. “We really support each other by lifting each other up when
mistakes are made and always celebrating when good things happen.”
Brown’s goal for her team is “to communicate on the court more and play as a team no matter
what.”
She’s learned a thing or two about the balance of student-athlete life along the way.
“I have learned that juggling school and sports is harder than I thought it was,” Brown said. “No
matter what, someone is always watching and to always do the right thing no matter what; to
always lead by example.”
Brown thanks her coaches for pushing her to be her best.
“Also, [I] would like to thank my parents for convincing me to start volleyball in the first place and
for helping me out every step of the way,” Brown said.
