Frederick’s Kellan Hicks Athlete Spotlight Presented by Dad’s Convenience Store

Athletes at all levels put in a lot of effort and time in order to continue to become better at their sports. There is a lot of sacrifice that is required but it is all worth it when they see their work pay off. Kellan Hicks has seen this process happen and knows that it is worth it.

“It has taken a strong work ethic because the summer workouts and hours of practice aren’t easy,” he said. “But the highlight of my career is making All-State in football, All- District in basketball, and All- District in baseball and getting recognized for my hard work.”

Hicks is a senior at Frederick High School, where he plays football, basketball, and baseball.

Along with all the hard work he has put in, Kellan also knows that his support system has been a key factor in his success.

“My family motivates me because they push me to always do my best and they give me confidence and love with every decision I make,” he said. “My biggest influence is my brother because he’s always there for me and pushing me to do my best.”

Kellan’s teammates are a solid group that he enjoys competing alongside. He says that they are a competitive group and they help each other get better.

“The teammate I like to work against is Zane because he’s just as competitive as I am and wants to win just as much as me,” Hicks said. “The least appreciated player on my team is Kaden Pierce because it’s his first year playing and he’s still learning the game and how things go but he’s made a lot of progress.”

Whenever he puts on his uniform, no matter what sport, Kellan is always ready to face whatever opponent is next. He says that he is proud to be able to play for his school and community.

“My favorite opponent to beat is Hobart because they’ve always been our rival,” he said. “It means a lot to represent my community when I play because of all the love our community gives to our school. I think it’s different from other schools because we have a lot of traditions and our community is always involved with us at Frederick High.”
