Kristen Rempel, an Altus High School English teacher, just wrapped her 20th year as a teacher.
Rempel has spent 16 of those years at Altus Public Schools, the first of those 14 years at Altus Junior High School teaching seventh-grade English. She teaches Pre-AP English, AP English and newspaper at AHS.
“Growing up and graduating from Altus, I genuinely had some of the best teachers,” Rempel said. “These are the people who inspired me to go into teaching.”
Rempel has inherited students she previously taught in seventh grade since making the jump to teaching high school.
“It has been awesome to see how [the students] have changed and grown,” Rempel said. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.” Rempel said her students teach her something new almost every day.
“They love keeping me up to date on the latest trends, movies, music, technology, et cetera,” Rempel said. “This helps me connect with my students and see things through their eyes.” Rempel considers teaching an essential piece of society. Not only do students learn to write; they “gain confidence, establish relationships, grow and succeed,” through school.
“I see my teaching career as an adventurous learning, growing and appreciating journey,” Rempel said.
Rempel has three daughters and spends most of her spare time at their sports games or school activities. She also enjoys redoing furniture, listening to true crime podcasts and soaking up sun on a beach.
