Being a distance runner in the sport of cross country requires stamina, as well as mental strength. For Altus High School junior Emily Davis, she possesses both, having ran track as a distance runner since eighth grade.
When it comes to who Emily looks up to as her biggest influences in her life, it is a tie between two people. “The people I look up to most are Mr. Garrison, and my mom. Mr. Garrison always motivates me, and keeps me going through my races. My mom motivates me to always be my best, and always says ‘You’ve got this.’”
There is one moment in Emily’s life that sticks out as a favorite memory during her career as a student athlete thus far. “That moment was definitely my entire sophomore year, because I finally realized my potential in the sport.”
In regard to what it has taken to become successful in girls’ cross country, Emily stated, “It has taken lots of hard work and a positive mind set to be where I am at.”
Many student athletes have a favorite athlete that they look up to. Emily stated, “The University of Florida’s Parker ValbyI look up to, because she runs the same events as me, and I feel I can relate to her.”
Asked what it means to represent her school and community, Emily stated, “To represent our team and community means to try your best and never give up at any time.”
In addition to being a distance runner for Altus High School, Emily is involved with other school activities including being a part of the National Honor Society, Blue Crew, and Link Crew.
After graduating from high school, Emily plans on pursuing higher education. Emily stated, “I would like go to college, but I am not sure where I will go yet. I plan to graduate with my Bachelors Degree, and then attend dental school.”
