Altus’ Dillon Pavelschak – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Stockmans Bank

Junior Dillon Pavelschak attends Altus High School, getting the opportunity to play tennis for the Bulldogs after moving into the district from Illinois.

“Altus has been insanely welcoming and helpful, especially to military kids,” Pavelschak said. “I think it’s a great area.”

Pavelschak has played tennis since the 7th grade. This season, his double partner is Kale, and the pair has finished in the top three at most doubles tournaments, according to coach Mark Dabelstein.

“Dillon is very focused on the tennis court,” Dabelstein said. “He knows what it takes to compete at a high level, and he does everything he can to achieve success. That’s my kind of player. He is very much like me in that he doesn’t like to lose, but he is much better than me in that he can let it go fairly quickly and focus up for the next match or drill.”

“He gives 100% in every match he plays in,” he continued. “I look forward to him continuing to work on his skillset and improving over the off-season. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table his senior year next year.”

Outside of athletics, Pavelschak is involved in the band and choir. Upon graduation, he wants to attend either the University of Oklahoma or Kansas State University. Wherever Pavelschak attends, he wants to teach high school students in the history section or major in journalism. Pavelschak credits a lot of his teachers while growing up for having such a lasting impact on his life.

“A lot of my teachers really influence me, and I think it’s a big part of our society to help raise our children. I want to make an impact on their lives like they do me.”

In his spare time, Pavelschak is constantly practicing different instruments.

“I practice music a lot with the instruments I play in band,” Pavelschak said. “I practice guitar, bass, and drum set. So, I try to expand my music vocabulary as much as I can.”
